BCMP Athlete Lauren King aims for World Marathon Championship Berth at CIGNE Walt Disney World Marathon
Toronto (Wednesday, January 10, 2009) – Toronto runner Lauren King, 26 will be taking aim at a time of 2:43.00 or faster at the Walt Disney World Marathon in Orlando, Florida, on January 11th in order to be considered to represent Canada at August’s World Cup Marathon in Berlin, Germany. King, a member of the Toronto-based Brooks Canada Marathon Project and is coming off a 57:32 effort for 10 miles at the Whitby Waterfront Race in November, and was the 2008 Canadian Half Marathon Championships bronze medalist.
Lauren King on her upcoming marathon:
I am looking forward to completing my first marathon at this weekend’s Disney World Marathon. I have been able to learn a lot about the 42.2-kilomtre distance from my teammates at the BCMP and will be taking with me to Florida a lot of their wisdom – as well as the experience of coach Hugh Cameron. I have the standard of 2:43.00, set by Athletics Canada for this year’s World Championships, on my mind. But at the end of the marathon, if I execute my race as well as possible on that day, I will be satisfied.
