BCMP Athletes to take on Canada’s finest at National Cross Country Championships
Toronto (November 26, 2008) – Brooks Canada Marathon Project (BCMP) runners James Gosselin, 31, and Trevor Caldwell, 28, will be competing in the AGSI Canadian Cross Country Championships in Guelph, Ont., on Saturday November 29th. Both Gosselin and Caldwell are returning from top-10 finishes at the 2007 Championships, held on the same course, and plan to use the 10-kilometre race to as an important test of fitness in their build-up towards the Naples Daily News Half Marathon on January 18th.
For Gosselin, a native of Timmins, Ont, and last years 10th place finisher, this will be his first race since September’s Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. He has a strong
record in cross country running, capturing five All-Canadian honours during his university career, and leading the Canadian Senior Men’s team at the 2008 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in March with a 91st-place finish. Caldwell, a graduate student at the University of Toronto, is demonstrating weekly gains in fitness as he returns from a tear in his Achilles tendon suffered earlier this year. Also a member of Canada’s national team at this year’s World Championships, he is taking aim at another strong cross country showing.

About the Brooks Canada Marathon Project: Now in its second year, the Brooks Canada Marathon Project provides distance runners with the opportunity to train with the goal of qualifying for the Olympic Games and World Championships. Thanks to a $1.5-million commitment from Brooks Canada founders Mike and Paul Dyon, the athletes train and live together in a house in Toronto’s west end provided by the Project. They also receive medical and travel support, and performance-based financial incentives. For more information, see http://www.brooksrunning.ca/runners_resource/marathon_project.html.
